Miglionico

Miglionico is famous for the Malconsiglio Castle. In 1485 the so-called Conspiracy of the Barons took place there; these, led by Count Girolamo Sanseverino, were impatient with Aragonese rule and plotted against King Ferrante I, who had the conspirators executed.  The other great attraction of this Lucanian village is preserved instead in the Mother Church; it is the admirable Renaissance Polyptych by Cima da Conegliano; formed by no less than eighteen panels arranged in four orders. In 1782, after its dismemberment, the admirable work was reassembled in its present late Baroque frame.
