Montescaglioso

A few kilometers from Matera lies the medieval village of Montescaglioso. Its prestige is linked to the Benedictine Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, founded in Norman times and expanded during the 16th century. Inside, in addition to the Magna-Greek archaeological evidence, our guide will describe the two large cloisters, the service rooms, the refectory, the kitchens, and the library with its esoteric frescoes.  The visit will continue with the arrival at

Porta Sant’Angelo and a panoramic view of the Regional Park of the rock churches of Matera.  Possibility to attend a workshop of traditional loom weaving.
