Santa Maria di Leuca

Santa Maria di Leuca is located in the municipality of Castrignano del Capo, in the province of Lecce.

Among its main monuments is the Basilica of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, built on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Very close to the sanctuary is the imposing lighthouse built in 1864 on the site of a 16th century watchtower.

While on the Santa Maria di Leuca seafront are the famous late 19th century Eclectic Villas and the coastal tower of the ‘Dead Men’.

Moving 4 km to the north, you can reach Patù, a town at the foot of the Serra di Vereto that is home to the Centopietre monument, a megalithic construction of uncertain origin.

The coast around the bay of Marina di Leuca is full of wonderful caves that can be reached by boat, which is the best way to enjoy this spectacle.
